Mmmm

Mmmm…I’m sorry it has been so long since I last posted something here. I’m now at the point where I have posted all the music I’ve finished and know well. From now on, I need to learn and complete the songs first. So, things will slow down.

Mmmm…I never have any idea what I’m going end up with when I sit down at the piano and start to explore sounds. In this case, I had a rhythmic idea (from Mozart) and a mood when I started and something close to this new piece when I finished.

Mmmm…what to call this new piece? Mmmm…not sure.

Mmmm

For now, this is the best title I can come up with. It stands for “me mimicking-murdering Mozart”. Maybe someday I’ll think of a better one.

Enjoy!

p.s. Here is where the rhythmic pulse idea came from – the Adagio from Mozart’s Serenade No. 10, one of my favorite pieces of all time.

p.p.s. If you haven’t seen the movie Amadeus, you’ve got to at least watch the beginning where Salieri is describing Mozart’s talent using this Adagio as an example – a must see!

  1. Dick, your music exemplifies a quality I’ve come to call transcendence, which separates the great composers from the merely good ones. Why do I prefer a mass by Josquin Desprez to one by his contemporaries Alexander Agricola or Jacob Obrecht? If anything, the latter two are more ingenious in their use of counterpoint and canon. But they lack transcendence, which requires humility and giving one’s self over to the music. Usually, this results in a more simple and even repetitive treatment than the composer might have achieved. The mark of a genius who is in touch with God is restraint in His presence. And so the composer draws us into God’s presence as well. Am I making sense?

    1. I can’t thank you enough for these affirming words – they bring me tremendous encouragement.

I’m not claiming any genius or greatness, but if I am able in some way to help draw anyone into God’s presence or bring His presence to them, that is fulfilling beyond measure. My prayer often is that I might be a thread on the hem of Jesus’ robe as He walks through my little patch of the world to bring healing.

      Grace and peace to you…
